Best wheels for Denver Park? - 2008/08/21 19:34 Hello All,

So just to introduce myself, my name is John and I've been skating since '85. My wife and I moved to Denver about 4 years ago from hot, humid Orlando, FL. Since then I've been riding as many of the area parks as I can find time to, but unfortunately, I'm usually at the parks in the morning times and haven't had the opportunity to meet many fellow skaters.

I live just a few minutes from the Denver Park and would love to skate there more often, but everytime I ride there, I end up on my ass because it's so damn slippery. Does anyone have any insight on how to get around this? I suspect softer wheels may help, but does anyone have any recommendations?

I currently ride Powell Bowl Riders (the hard ones) and they're great at all the other parks. I was looking into some Powell Mini-Logo 58mm 97a's. Does anyone have any experience with these at Denver?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to respond and thanks for giving us old dudes a place to connect.

Ride On,

John

Re:Best wheels for Denver Park? - 2008/08/31 08:13 bones SPF (skate park formula) seem to work the best for most folks down there. I use old school Santacruz like OJII and Bullet. Some of the retro wheels like the OJIII in 97 with a wider contact path should work well as well. Once you find what works for you, you will love that surface down there. better for knee slides when you need to bail. your knee pads will actually stay on and do their job. Re:Best wheels for Denver Park? - 2008/09/03 11:33 thanks for the insight. i have some 99a mini-logos on my street setup that i tried at the park last week and they seemed to help. i went ahead and ordered a set of 97a's (58mm/36mm). they should be coming in the mail today, so i'll give them a try tomorrow.

have you ever tried dust mopping the bowls. i know when i skate masonite, i always give it a once over before the session.

and i didn't even know they still made ojs and bullets. i used to ride bullets all the time - they rocked.

thanks again.

Re:Best wheels for Denver Park? - 2008/09/06 10:29 my oj's and bullets are NOS but they are making retro versions these days. And, yea, we sweep out the bowls pretty regularly and sometimes mop too. But, once you get wheels that work, you won't see it as such an issue. "It's all ball bearings these days" -- Irwin Fletcher

Re:Best wheels for Denver Park? - 2008/09/13 19:28 frank,

i've had a couple of sessions now on a set of 97a's and i can't even believe what a difference they make. they're a bit slower, but what i've given up in speed, i've gained ten-fold in traction. now i'm loving the denver park.

thanks again for taking the time to share your experience. hopefully our paths will cross one day and we can ride together.

until then,

john
