In the mid 70's, in the Venice California area known as Dogtown, there was a skateboard team. This team was called the Zephyr team. The team was made up of now legendary guys like Tony Alva, Stacey Peralta, Jim Muir, and Jay Adams, to name a few. Up until this point skateboarding was done standing upright and on flat level surfaces. The Zephyr team was all about getting as low as they could on the board, riding banks, and eventually moving to drained swimming pools. The sport was changed forever and the world would never be the same. As a teenager at this time, I was skateboarding in Colorado Springs, Colorado. My friends and I were skating the drainage ditches and banks that we could find. And, every month we all would get our issues of Skateboarder Magazine out to see what the Z-Boys were doing now. And, we would all try to learn the new tricks. It was a great time. As the years have gone by, skateboarding has had it's ups and downs. If you are a skater, you know what I mean. But now, we are in an up time. cities have started to accept that people skate. They are building skateparks and, this time they are free!!. | |
